In Cooperstown, Baseball Isn’t the Only Game

A Stroll down Main Street in Cooperstown — lined with shops with names like Mickey’s Place and Where It All Began Bat Company — might make you think there is little to this charming village but baseball. With a population of just over 2,000, Cooperstown is visited every year by 500,000 out-of-towners, many of them baseball-obsessed. It is, after all, home to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. But on a recent trip, accompanied by my 11-year-old daughter, Emily, and my 6-year-old son, Simon, I discovered there is more to this place than America’s most beloved pastime.
