“If you ask me what I came to do in this world… I am here to live out loud.”
– EMILE ZOLA
Are you facing a challenge or transition and looking for guidance from a mindful and empathetic listener? Someone who will empower you to harness your strengths and help you achieve your goals while cultivating joy and meaning along the way? Someone who can bring clarity to your circumstances and help you take decisive steps to making positive change? If so, here’s what you need to know about me.
I love what I do and how my work—as a coach, writer and mindfulness meditation instructor—has the possibility to enlighten and benefits my clients, students and readers. I remember the challenges I braved in my early twenties after graduating college, faced with balancing a new career, my financial future, and potential relationships. Marriage was another transition that required me to make significant compromises and brought a shift in priorities. And while it was filled with joy, new motherhood was simultaneously overwhelming, and involved a postpartum depression, adapting to a new identity, and lots of self-reflection about a work-life balance.
Caren’s insightfulness, her reassuring approach, and the positive strategies she’s shared have been beyond helpful! Our work together has been effective, and enabled me to get a clearer picture of my goals and how to reach them.
RENEE C.
As I worked through these struggles and transitions, I sought guidance from my coach (my mother, actually, who was an inspiring role model and thoughtful advisor), and investigated these challenges further by researching and writing articles about many of these topics as I was going through them.
Ever since graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, and soon after earning master’s degrees from New York University in Journalism and French Language & Culture, I’ve been working as a writer and journalist, where my curiosity, perseverance and listening skills provide the groundwork for my writing. I have always been authentic and unafraid to ask questions to get to the heart of a matter, a problem, an exploration.
My approach to my life and work is an embodied one,
embracing the connection of mind and body—the internal and the external,
how experiences affect our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
As a writer, I currently contribute articles to The New York Times, for which I was a columnist with a bi-weekly column, Mom U., for its college education blog. I also write a column for Psychology Today called “The Right Balance,” focusing on health and wellbeing, and have written articles and essays for a variety of newspapers, magazines and websites.
Earlier in my career, I worked in the editorial departments at several magazines, including Rolling Stone, Parents, and Mademoiselle, and later taught magazine writing as an adjunct professor at New York University’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. Most recently, I co-edited—as well as contributed an essay to—Drinking Diaries: Women Serve Their Stories Straight Up (Seal Press, 2012), an anthology about women’s relationship with alcohol.
In addition to being a life coach, writer and mindfulness meditation instructor, I am a mother and wife, a dog-loving nature enthusiast, and an adventure-seeking traveler. I am a meditator, a yogi, a foodie and a Francophile.
When I’m not writing, coaching or leading workshops in my cozy office in Larchmont, New York, you may find me hiking on the trails in the Berkshires, in Massachusetts, or perhaps in my kitchen, trying out a new recipe with my dog cuddling nearby.
